This Week #4

My oh my this week! Busy doesn't even cut it!

I spend most of Monday trying to get the indicators on my car fixed (for a price that wouldn't leave me with 40p to my name), no luck as of yet but let's just say it's proving interesting (crazy fun) to drive.

The most difficult part of my week has been finding boundaries and setting them in place, sometimes I find it tricky to let go of the sense I'm disappointing someone or being a little harsh. Annoyingly, this often leads to the exact opposite, I end up going out f my way for others (when not warranted) and am just too nice. I need to work on it and recognising the flaw is the first step - it's time to put my foot down.

Also, I've set some solid plans for the summer months and I can hardly wait! The chance to get out more, see more, hang out more is sounding really appealing and is definitely getting me through bouts of negative feelings.

For the most part, I've had a really positive week. Clouds disappearing and the sun has had a big part to play in this, it's all a little more hopeful.

Seeing friends and doing different things to my usual routine has kept me alert and interested - I'm on track.

Thoughts On Social Media

In this day and age I think it would be reasonable to think nearly everyone has an active account on one or more social media platforms - that's to be expected! A large of junk of communication happens via the internet, be it iMessages, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram...

Instagram is my main social network of choice. I am always fascinated by the way different beings interpret a place, plate of food, person, cup of coffee. It's infinite and I love it!
A lot of my inspiration stems from Instagram and I enjoy documenting important moments and activities in my life. It has allowed me to network with people I wouldn't have otherwise met.
It's great for building your own persona and finding what you like, however, so is the outside world.

It's interesting because if someone had asked me to write a post about this when I was 14 I probably would have said it's brilliant, I love it, it can do no wrong. I think we all know that's not the truth, it does have its downsides and we've all experienced them.

For me, it's important to be mindful. Meaning I like to be in tune with myself and the ground I'm standing on. Often this means switching off from things like Twitter and Instagram. It's great to be letting everyone know what you're doing and how you're feeling but sometimes it's nice to be anonymous and soak up some serenity.

Of course I will continue to use social media platforms, and I will most definitely remember to be conscious and aware of my own presence in this ever-changing world.

The internet and social media is what you make of it, you can choose to absorb the good and banish the bad (and vice versa). Most of all I think it's vital to remember that as we grow, the internet grows.

Happy 10

10 things that have made me happy this week!

  1. The sound of heavy rain on the roof and windows. It’s been constant this week, and I’ve not minded a bit.
  2. Assisting with essential Christmas shopping. I'm often put in charge of present and card buying, and this year I enjoyed it more than last.
  3. Reading my Auntie's blog. I hadn't known about it until a few days ago, she has now given me even more inspiration to carry on writing!
  4. Getting the house ready for my brother, Max and his friend, Didi's arrival. He's been away from home for a while now, although sometimes stressful, it's always a delight to have him back.
  5. A fruit bowl piled high with clementines. Oh so juicy!
  6. Being lucky enough to have a few close friends and family members I can really open up to when things get a little rough.
  7. Making lists. I'm not so secretly a complete perfectionist and lists keep me organised.
  8. Frank Sinatra's Christmas album - It's less than a week until Christmas and I've over played it. Still, his sweet, smooth voice is charming to say the least.
  9. Handing in my English Language coursework (early might I add!) - I couldn't be more ecstatic that it's out of the way and I can have a swell break.
  10. Sparking a smile on my Mum's face. Christmas can be a difficult and reflective time for us both, so seeing her face light up when I tell a highly embarrassing joke is lovely.
